New Year holydays

I’m not a person very interested on this types of “events” but when I think in a special celebration the one that come to my mind is one from years ago, when I was twelve, and it’s the celebration of new year and it was with my brother, my dad and his girlfriend, here on Santiago. At the start of the night I remember that we were playing PlayStation with my brother on the apartment, and my dad’s girlfriend was cooking while he was out.  The next thing I remember is that we were sitting on the table, eating a food that I like a lot, meat, duchess potatoes, rice and a lot of other things, also we were listening to iron maiden concerts in the DVD. When we finish, we went to a place where we could see the fireworks, and I recorded them with my phone, it was a very old phone, so the quality of the video was very low. After all this we went back to the apartment, and I suppose that we played a little bit more with my brother, but I’m not sure cause actually I don’t remember much about it.

I didn’t think that this moment was something special, but is the first that I remember and these are good memories, so I suppose that it was special.

Free post

This last week as we didn’t have classes, I dedicate my free time to draw a lot, because I like it, and I got to do an assignment for “Illustration”. Well, while I was working on it, I realize that I didn’t knew how to do the shading of a draw, so, I search on the web, for information, and I found a video about it. In the video they said that, to make the shading on a draw, we need to know the structure of the things we are drawing, so, I realize that I didn’t knew about how to make the structure of the things I draw. Then I kept looking for more information and I found a lot of things about drawing, like gesture, structure, proportions, details. Also I saw some videos about professionals’ illustrators, who said that the way to get better is to observe the things, imagine the structures of those things, simplify them on basic geometry and the most important, draw always, every time and everywhere I can.

Basically everything I knew about drawing was restructure, and I had to start from the basics. So, the rest of the free week I was just trying to applicate the things I learned, on the draws I had to do for the assignment, practicing the basics, learning some techniques, and looking for more and more information. Even now I’m trying to use the little free time I got to draw, so I hoping that one day I’ll be as good as the people I saw those videos.

Travels of my childhood

Have passed a long of time since I went to a beach, but I remember that in my childhood, when I lived on Villa Alemana with my grandparents, we used to go very often. I got very special memories from those travels, especially when we went with my brother. I remember when we were in the bus, and the sea was visible, I always got excited. When we arrive to the beach, I always tried to help looking for the place to put the umbrella, but I didn’t have any idea what places were good. Then before we went to the water with my brother, we played with sand, each one made a tunnel and then tried to connect it to the other on the underground, and it was very funny. When we went to the water, we used to compete in a race to see who was faster, I never win a single one, but I always tried. One of my favorite moments was when we played to “break” the waves, this consisted in hitting the wave with all our strength, trying to disperse it. There were times when a giant wave came and drag us out of the sea, which was very funny and kind of terrifying. It was a little sad when we had to go back to the house but, I knew that we will going to return someday, and that made me happy.

My dream work would be being a “gunpla” designer, modeler, I’m not sure how it’s called, but the work consist in design a model kit (if you don’t know what it is, you can see my last post, there is a short description of it) and every process that this involve. Designing the general structure, the pieces, the articulation and the general engineering, modeling it on the computer, make the molds, etc. I don’t know everything about this fascinate me so much, and I’m so glad that in my career I’m learning some skills that will be very useful on this, parametric modeling, design of products in general, illustration, the use of colors; also I’ve  practice a lot with my own modifications to the kits I have built. So my plans to the future are to go to a competition of “gunpla” building and try to get some “rename”, show my capacities and experience, and then try to work for the company.

I would feel very accomplished with this work, because is what I like, and also this thing satisfies my esthetic need. The only problem I see, is that I’ll need to go to japan to work on this, so now I’m don t feel so prepared to leave this country, and I have to learn a totally different language, so hope in the future I can do those things.

Hello ladies and gentleman’s, I’m Rodrigo Muñoz, and this is the second (actually, this was the first, but I didn’t publish it on time) entry of my first blog.

In this entry I’m going to talk about one of my model kits; if u don’t know what model kits are, these are scale articulated plastic models, that you have to build. There are models of war vehicles(tanks, ships, airplanes), classic vehicles, robots, mechas (piloted robots), etc. The ones that I collect are mechas from animated series, called gundam. The gundam franchise is quite large, and has been around for at least 40 years, so they have made a lot of different series, but all of them have in common the mechas called gundams. So, having already explained what a gundam model kit is, I can tell what this first entry will be about.

This is the last model that I have built, it’s called “Gundam Love Phantom”. This one belongs to a series called “Gundam Build divers”, I won’t talk too much about the show, because it was bad, but it has a lot of good designs, at least I like a lot of them. The thing that I like the most about this kit, is his head design, also, his wings are very cool too, and it has very nice gimmicks, like que canons on the wings and the sideskirts. The engineering of the kit is pretty good, it has a nice range of “posability” (the capacity to pose), and the color separation (pieces of different colors to match the 2d design), is amazing. 

"The greatest Chilean of all time"

When I thing about important Chilean figures, there aren’t much names on my mind, but there is someone who I think immediately, and that’s Pedro Aguirre Cerda. He was the president of Chile in the year 1938, his government was the start of the radical period. Something that make special his government was the preoccupation for the educational system, and he made a lot of acts to promote this, some of those were, upgrading the infrastructure, creating new schools, promoting the formation of the students. Also, Aguirre create the CORFO, an organization that develop the national industry, generating jobs for the people, and making Chile more independent economically. Thanks to those acts the country improve economically and socially, sadly Aguirre died 2 years after his investment, without completing his term.

The reason why I think he was so important, is because he was focused on something different than any other politician, the preoccupation for the educational system is something that since the military dictatorship, has been lost, and is one of the biggest problems of our country today. The educational system of a country is very important, because the children are the ones who grown to become part of the society, and then, are they the ones who will change it, so, the way they grown, is determinant to the future of a country.
